This event is set to be one of the notable events to take place in Ghana from Tuesday, 10 October 2023, to Sunday, 15 October 2023, at The Papaye Recreational Village at Aburi in the Eastern Region.
The Ghana Export Promotion Authority is inviting the public to attend the first Adinkra International Arts and Crafts Show, a journey into creativity and cultural exploration.
The six-day event showcases functional art, crafts, home decor, jewellery, and textiles. Activities such as exhibitions, seminars, B2B and buyer-seller meetings, mentorship sessions, and fun parks are designed to create a memorable experience.
Interestingly, the event coincides with the Odwira Festival celebrated by the people of Akropong-Akuapim, Amonokrom and Aburi.
The festival is linked to the people’s victory of Akuapim over the then-powerful Ashanti army during the historic battle of Katamansu near Dodowa in 1826.
Odwira is also a time of spiritual cleansing when the people of Okuapemman and all who celebrate present themselves anew and pray for protection. Traditionally, the timing of the festival also coincides with the harvest season when there is abundant food, during which time the people give thanks to their Ancestors. Being a Yam Festival, gratitude for the harvest is primarily expressed in the “feeding the ancestors”.
The Adinkra International Arts and Crafts Show in Ghana will feature four stages: Home Decor, Giving, Sustainability, and Inspiring. Home Decor will display authentic African handicrafts, Giving will showcase gift ideas, Sustainability will feature products and solutions to protect the environment, and Inspiring will provide a dedicated pavilion for networking sessions.
