This is Ghana’s biggest street art festival. Chale Wote Street Art Festival is held annually in Ghana’s capital, Accra.
It is celebrated alongside the Homowo Festival in August. CHALE WOTE means “man, let’s go!” in Ga (the language of the people of Greater Accra) and is also a reference to flip flops.
The 2023 Chale Wote Street Art Festival is the 13th edition of the festival. The annual festival brings the magic of art, music, and dance to High Street in Accra.
The week-long celebration witnesses the exhibition of the finest arts from creatives.
This festival is a brainchild of Mantse Aryeequaye, an independent filmmaker and co-director at Accra [Dot] alt. Accra [Dot] alt, a cultural network that organizes the Chale Wote Street Art Festival.
This year’s Chale Wote Festival will commence on Monday, 21 August 2023, to Sunday, 27 August 2023 at The Christiansborg Castle, Osu, Accra, Ghana.

Mark your calendars for August 21st, 2023 – the Day of Remembering Procession. Join the procession starting at 3 p.m. from Christianborg Castle in Osu, passing through the township, to Lokko Street, Starlets 91 Road, Black Star Square and back to Christianborg Castle. Don’t miss this unforgettable moment.
Mark your calendars for the Chale Wote Street Art Festival 2023 Film Labs, happening from August 21st to August 24th.
This year’s films will be showcased at the stunning Christiansborg Castle Gardens in Osu. Don’t miss out on this exciting event!
Also, @afuabegh is excited to exhibit a new project that delves into the rich social history of resistance in the Gulf of Guinea from the 17th to the 20th century.
Through captivating visual forms, this work will explore the multifaceted identities of historical figures whose political actions shaped the era. Get ready for an authentic journey through an often-overlooked part of history.
There will be usual display of performance art, graffiti, salons, photography, street theatre. There will be four stages which will host over 100 musicians and bands.
