Transport fares in Ghana to Go Up 20%

The Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council has issued a statement announcing an increment in transport fares in Ghana.

According to the GRTCC, public transport fares will be increased by 20% from Friday, August 8, 2025.

This increment according to the council is the non-corresponding reduction in spare parts, and vehicle servicing.

Also, they cited the 1 cedis per litre levy on fuel as well as deplorable roads in the country. Simply, if you were paying 5 cedis as fare for taxi, you will now have to pay 6 cedis.

This increment applies to shared taxis, intra city (tro-tro), intercity, and haulage.

Operating under the Ministry of Transport. The GRTCC is central in Ghana’s road transport ecosystem. It coordinates public policy and transport operators.
